What colour is this?

It's not green. It's moss.

Hi!

A while back we got called out for selling a yellow Mini Fairing screen that one customer didn’t agree was yellow.

I thought it was yellow.

He thought it was orange.

On reflection, he raised a valid point.

We might use colour shorthand in our team chats - “oh yeah, the yellow one, not the red one”, but maybe we’re not being as helpful as we could be.

So, its time to come up with names for our colours.

First up is this.

Let me introduce you to Moss.

I won’t lie, when Jim our Product Chief put the colour description in front of me, I did think “Moss, isn’t that a bit… damp?”

But then it got me day dreaming.

Here in the UK, when I look out of the window, the world around me is all shades of green. Leaves, grasses, hedgerows and yes, moss.

In fact, if you are anywhere in the world and you think about the UK, once you get past the grey weather, the colour that comes to mind is probably a shade of green.

Every shade of green, and a tiny red Honda.

Three interesting facts about moss:

  • Mosses are ancient survivors and some of the oldest plants on earth.
  • Mosses can survive extremely harsh conditions.
  • Mosses are bioindicators and a good indicator of air quality.

So, thanks Chat GPT, I’ll take that.

It’s not green, it’s moss.

Today we are launching our first Moss gear.

Our Baltic Hybrid and Baltic Insulated mid layer jackets.

The Baltic Hybrid is easily my most used bit of Adventure Spec kit, the longest bang for its buck. Of course I wear it on the bike, the sleeves stretch over my Supershirt and it’s a great way to add a bit of warmth under my Linesman or Gravel Jacket.

But lets be honest, I spend far more time at home than on the bike, and frankly, my family are probably a bit tired of seeing me walk around in my Baltic Hybrid on an almost daily basis.

It straddles that line between technical and casual wonderfully (just ask Robert Baldinger).

The Baltic Insulated is the warmest layer we make. It’s designed for colder conditions and I often wear mine over my Supershirt and underneath my Singletrack Jacket in winter, which creates warmth without the bulk or restriction of a heavy outer layer jacket.

Warmth is provided by 130g of Thermore smart thermal booster insulation that adapts to external temperatures - thermal value increases by up to 20% when the temperature drops. Magic.

In winter and autumn it too gets a fair old workout off the bike and is most welcome at camp both in the wild and more socially.

We have limited first run of stock of the new Baltic Hybrid and Insulated Jackets in our UK, EU and USA stores.

Both are also available in black.

Oh, right, we need a new name for black, any ideas?
